TWP 1500 Series Deck Stain (Low VOC)
TWP 1500 Series is the low-VOC version of the original TWP deck stain. It's an oil-based, penetrating stain and EPA-registered wood preservative at 350 g/L VOC, so it can be sold in all 50 states. It's the TWP to choose if TWP 100 isn't allowed where you live. This listing is a 1 gallon can in 10 colors.

TWP 1500 Colors
1500 Clear, 1501 Cedartone, 1502 Redwood, 1503 Dark Oak, 1504 Black Walnut, 1511 California Red, 1515 Honeytone, 1516 Rustic, 1520 Pecan and 1530 Natural. TWP notes that 1500 Clear isn't meant to hold color and lets the wood gray naturally, so choose a tinted color to keep the wood's color. See all colors in our TWP stain colors guide.
TWP 1500 vs TWP 100
They're applied the same way and can be used over each other. The difference is VOC: TWP 1500 is 350 g/L and legal in every state, while TWP 100 is 550 g/L and can't be sold in VOC-regulated states. Read TWP 100 vs 1500 for details.
How to Apply TWP 1500
- Let new wood weather: about 6 months for new cedar or redwood and 12 months for new pressure-treated lumber.
- Remove other finishes. TWP goes over old TWP, but other brands must be stripped.
- Clean and brighten with the Restore-A-Deck kit, then let the wood dry at least 2 days.
- Apply wet-on-wet: if the first coat soaks in within 15-30 minutes, apply a second. Hardwoods usually take one.
Plan on a maintenance coat when the color starts to fade, usually in 12-24 months depending on the color. Decks need it sooner than fences and siding.
