Coverage Information
- Coverage: One gallon covers approximately 100-150 sq. ft. on rough surfaces or 150-200 sq. ft. on smooth surfaces.
- Recommended Tools: Apply using a 4" natural bristle brush or a 3/8″ nap roller cover. Many contractors prefer the Wooster F5116 natural bristle brush.
Pre-Application Preparation
- Clean and prepare the wood with Messmer’s Wood & Deck Cleaner (Part A) and Messmer’s Wood & Deck Brightener (Part B) for redwood and some cedars.
- Ensure the wood is clean, dry, and in good condition before application.
- Cover any areas you don’t want to stain, like plants, grass, or concrete.
Application Process
- Stir Messmer’s UV Plus thoroughly before use to ensure even pigment distribution.
- Apply one coat of UV Plus following the grain of the wood.
- Brush or roll out any excess product within 30 minutes to prevent sticky or shiny spots.
- No need for topcoats or pretreatment, and it won't peel or flake if applied properly.
Clean-Up Instructions
- Dispose of waste, including brushes and roller covers, in a water-filled container. Seal the container and dispose of it properly.
- Use paint thinner or mineral spirits for clean-up.
Why Doesn’t Messmer’s UV Plus Stain Bead Water?
Unlike some stains that use waxes or paraffin to create a temporary water beading effect, Messmer’s UV Plus uses high solids content to fill the pores of the wood, offering more durable water repellency that lasts longer.
How Long Will Messmer’s UV Plus Last?
- Typically, UV Plus needs reapplication every 1-3 years, depending on the type of wood and environmental conditions.
- On vertical, smooth surfaces, expect 2-3 years of protection.
- On rough surfaces, the stain can last up to 3-4 years.
- On decks, it generally lasts 1-2 years.
