Proluxe SRD and SRD RE are a transparent matte finish ford siding, railing and decks. Available in a curated palette of nine richly saturated wood tones.
Proluxe Sikkens Srd and SRD RE is a translucent exterior finish stain specially formulated to provide a water repellent finish for many demanding areas of the home. Cetol Srd is an easy to use oil based effective coating for all outdoor wooden surfaces. It uses finely ground iron oxide pigments creating a rich, natural color and offers a unique protective layer against rain, snow and UV rays.

Recommended Uses: Cetol SRD is for application to areas normally troublesome to coat with film-forming products. These application areas include roofs, wall shakes, shingles and decks. One coat application.
- Type – Transparent
Process:
Step 1: Apply chemicals
Depending if there was a previous finish or it is a new deck spray a deck cleaner or deck stripper to the deck. Let the cleaner or stripper work by agitating it into the wood with a stiff bristle brush keeping the area wet. The longer the chemicals work the easier it will come off with the pressure wash.
Proper surface preparation is the key to any successful deck restoration project. First, all the vegetation around the deck should get saturated with water prior to applying any chemicals. This will act as a tarp for all of your plants. Then we will apply a bio-degradable chemical stripper or cleaner to soften and remove the existing failed wood stain treatment, sealer, or mold. Depending what deck stain or treatment that was last applied to the deck will depend on how strong of chemical that will be used on the deck. Film and water based stains are the hardest to remove and require the most time and material.
Step 2-Pressure washing the deck
We will use a low-pressure to remove the previous coating and any dirt on the deck. We typically use between 1,200 and 1,800 psi on the deck depending on your previous coating and how strong the chemical is used. You want to be careful that the wood is not burned. To ensure top quality we let the chemical do most of the work.
Step 3 – Apply Wood Brightener to deck (Only cedar decks)
Once again rinse the working area prior to brightening the wood. Once the house, concrete, brick, siding, and plants are rinsed apply a Wood brightener that will restore the wood back to the original blond color. The wood brightener also neutralizes the chemical stripper that was used in step one. Pressure treated or Wolmanized decks do not need the brightener.
Step 4 – Sanding off the deck if needed
When you sand a cedar or redwood deck the tannin oil of the wood are pulled up to the surface when sanded. Wood brighteners neutralize this. New decks need to be sanded for the first time to insure an even finish.
Step 5 – Staining the Deck
The best way to apply Sikkens Srd is to apply the stain/sealer by HAND BRUSHING the complete deck making sure extreme care is given by making sure no stain gets on anything but the deck. You typically only need to apply 1 coat to the verticals. You may need a light second coat if the floor is dry or SRD is applied in direct sunlight on a extremely hot day . You want to stay off the deck for several hours and up to a day after the deck has been completed. The Wooster F5116 natural bristle brush where you can screw in a broom handle or the Dynamic brush is the best way to apply the stain. You have the most control over where the stain is going.
Rain – If rain occurs shortly after staining the deck will typically repel it. If the rain leaves rain marks we apply another light coat to the floor of the deck. Rain usually does not rinse off the stain, it usually will leave water marks. If rain is in the forecast, that would be a good time to do the railing or skirting. If you get water marks on the deck floor, all you need to do is apply a thinned down second coat and that will remove/cover the rain marks. Thin down 1 gallon of thinner to a quart of stain.

What is the difference between Sikkens SRD and SRD re?
Sikkens definitely uses their share of acronyms, which can make things confusing. The SRD in Cetol SRD is short for Siding, Rails, and Decks. SRD is essentially a one-coat all-purpose wood finish, which is reflected in its name. The RE you find on several of the products is short for Reduced Emissions.
