Step 1
Proper surface preparation is the key to any successful fence or deck restoration project. First, all the vegetation around the deck or fence should get saturated with water prior to applying any chemicals. This will act as a tarp for all of your plants. Then apply a bio-degradable chemical stripper or cleaner to soften and remove the existing failed wood stain. We recommend Woodrich Cleaner/Stipper  Depending what  stain or sealer that was last applied to the fence will depend on how strong of chemical that will be used on the deck. Film and water based stains are the hardest to remove and require the most time and material.

Step 2Pressure washing the deck or fence
Use a low-pressure to remove the previous coating and any dirt on the deck. You typically want to use between 1,200 and 1,800 psi on the deck or fence depending on your previous coating and how strong the chemical is used. You want to be careful that the wood is not burned. To ensure top quality let the chemical do most of the work.

Step 3 – Apply Wood Brightener to deck (Only cedar decks or fences)

Once again rinse the working area prior to brightening the wood. Once the house, concrete, brick, siding, and plants are rinsed apply Woodrich brand Wood brightener that will restore the wood back to the original blond color. The wood brightener also neutralizes the chemical stripper that was used in step one. Pressure treated or Wolmanized decks and fence do not need the brightener.

Step 4 – Sanding off the deck  – Skip for fences

When you sand a cedar or redwood deck the tannin oil of the wood are pulled up to the surface when sanded. Wood brighteners neutralize this. New decks need to be sanded for the first time to insure an even finish.

Step 5 – Staining the Deck or fence

BRUSHING the complete deck making sure extreme care is given by making sure no stain gets on anything but the deck. You typically only apply 1 coat to the verticals such as fences. For an extra charge customers like to have 2 coats applied to the floor and tops of rails for added protection, since once coat typically looks dry on the deck flooring. Spraying a fence is recommended and back brushing for any runs. Ready Seal is very easy to work with since the runs blend in and do not show.

Why is Ready Seal the best wood stain and sealer for fences?

Wood Stain and Wood Sealer in one.

Most wood stain and sealers require a long, complicated application process for a polished final result, including staining and sealing separately. Ready Seal’s exceptional formula allows the application of color and sealant in one step. This capability eliminates the extra costs and time-wasting that typically occurs during traditional stain application. You will save time and money when you use Ready Seal.

No peeling, cracking, or chipping.

Instead of penetrating into wood, traditional wood stains form an inflexible film on the surface of wood which cannot adapt to the expansion and contraction of wood through temperature changes, leading to cracking and flaking over time. Ready Seal wood stains penetrate deep into wood, moisturizing with waterproofing oils and creating a flexible barrier that keeps moisture out without cracking, chipping, or peeling.

Goof Proof™ application process.

Traditional wood stain application necessitates back brushing, a process that smooths out runs, streaks and brush marks. Back brushing is also required for spray applications of traditional wood stains. Back brushing isn’t needed with Ready Seal’s wood stain and sealant products. You’ll never have to back brush, even after spraying! No more runs, laps or streaks.
